A New Year, A New Beginning

It has been a while since I have written a blog post, and that is mainly because I could not decide on a purpose for my blog. I am not an expert in any of my hobbies (well, maybe reading), so my blog is not a place where people would necessarily come to learn from a master (at least, aside from literary analysis). However, despite the reality that I am still a novice in my many hobbies, I have decided to make my blog a web journal of my progress through the areas of literature and creative writing, educational technology, gaming, calligraphy and penmanship, and illumination. A few words about each category and what to expect from each:

Literature and Creative Writing

I have a Master’s degree in English, so reading and writing are two activities that are a part of who I am. I live and breathe letters, words, sentences, chapters, and poems. My goal for this category is to keep a record of all the books I read, along with my thoughts about the work(s). In addition, I may post my own feeble writings from time to time; probably the only way they’ll ever be published, anyway.

Gaming

I love playing board games, table top games, and PC games World of Warcraft and LOTRO. I will be posting thoughts on games I have played recently and any other gaming news I deem important.

Calligraphy and Penmanship

I can’t draw to save my life, but I am fascinated by calligraphy and penmanship. I have started my journey to become a calligrapher and penman, and I will be posting my attempts here in the hopes that embarrassment will drive me to be better sooner rather than later.

Illumination

Medieval manuscripts are some of the finest pieces of art ever created, in my humble opinion. The art of illumination demands careful planning and a light touch as precious gold is laid over a gilding agent and burnished to a bright shine, thereby “illuminating” the page. While I lack both the artistic and light touch, I have decided to try my hand at learning illumination anyway. Life is short. Play hard or go home.

It is my goal to have at least one blog post per week. I am not sure which of these categories will get a blog post any given week, but one of them will, and I am hoping that when 2017 ends (and I am still alive), I will be able to go back and reflect on how I worked at growing myself this year. Until next time!

Happy New Year!
